Is GEO accredited?

Accepted Answer

Not yet, and we will not pretend otherwise. GEO is designed to Cognia standards; we apply for Cognia membership in 2027; accreditation reviews are hosted on schools that are already operating, so ours follows our first cohort; and we expect accreditation to be in place in the 2028/2029 school year. That is also the earliest year any GEO student can graduate, and we opened at grades 6, 7 and 8 to make sure of it. Accreditation is somebody else's decision, so we will not promise you their answer or their date — we will tell you if it moves, long before your child is anywhere near graduating.

Will the diploma be recognized in my country?

Accepted Answer

We can tell you rather than guess. We checked all 198 countries and territories against their governments' own rules. In 126 a route to local recognition exists; in 47 it does not; in 24 we could not find a reliable source and we say so. Find your country in the directory — it names the body that decides, the rule, the fee and the wait. One condition applies everywhere: in much of the world recognition turns on the school being accredited at home, so these routes assume the accreditation we expect in 2028/2029.

Question 3

Which grades are you opening, and when?

Grades 6, 7 and 8 open for the 2027/2028 school year, starting September 2027. Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 all open the following year, 2028/2029. If your child will be in grade 9 or above in 2027/2028, join the waitlist and tell us their grade — we will write to you the moment your year opens.

Question 4

Is my child really taught by artificial intelligence?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and we are direct about it because your child will be too — they are told at the start of every session, in words an eleven-year-old understands. The AI teacher carries the lesson: it explains, checks whether your child understood, re-explains differently when they did not, and sets the work. What it never does is decide anything that matters. Grades, progression, credit and your child's transcript are every one decided by a qualified human educator who has read their work, and every diploma is signed by a head of department.

Question 5

What does the school day actually look like?

Three or four classes a day of forty-five minutes each — three to four hours of school, counting the practice and assignments around the lessons. You choose the hours, because your child is the only student in the room. One hundred and eighty school days across a ten-month year, in three terms, with eight subjects cycling through each week.

What device do we need, and how much internet?

Accepted Answer

Any device that can hold a video call: a phone, a tablet or a laptop, with a microphone, a speaker, a camera and a current browser. Lessons do not stream video, so a GEO class uses less data than a video call does, and there is a low-bandwidth mode that keeps the class fully live on a weak connection. The one exception is examinations that count toward the transcript, which need a video-capable connection — the school books those into windows that work around the connection your family actually has.

Question 7

How do examinations work if my child is at home?

Accepted Answer

They are supervised. Your child is verified at the start and during the sitting, the examination environment is monitored, and the recording is deleted within a month unless there is a specific reason we tell you about. Ordinary lessons are never recorded and never invigilated. We will not claim cheating is impossible — no school can — but at GEO it buys nothing: a topic only counts once your child can do it unaided two weeks later, and nothing reaches the transcript without a named human deciding it.

What does it cost, and when do we pay?

USD 400 for a full school year, per child, with three ways to pay: USD 350 once in March, USD 400 in two payments of USD 200 in March and December, or USD 450 in six payments of USD 75 from March. Nothing is collected now — the waitlist is free — and the first payment for 2027/2028 falls in March 2027.

Can my child stay at their current school as well?

Accepted Answer

Many families will start that way, and GEO's schedule is built for it: three or four classes at whatever hours suit you, including early mornings and evenings. Whether your country allows a child to be schooled outside its own system is a separate question, and it is answered country by country in our directory.

What if my child is behind?

Accepted Answer

Then you are describing most children, and it is the thing GEO is best at. Before your child starts, a short adaptive assessment in each subject finds not just where they are but which earlier ideas never quite went in. Teaching starts from there. A child does not have to keep pretending to follow a lesson that stands on something they missed three years ago.

What if my child is ahead?

They are given harder and wider work — deeper problems, more demanding applications, more ground — not an early diploma. GEO runs a full, non-accelerated program. Your child's pace decides what happens inside the year; it never shortens the years.

Question 12

Who marks the work and gives the grades?

Accepted Answer

Qualified educators. Three graded checkpoints a year in every subject build the transcript, and every one of those decisions is made by a human being who has opened your child's work. Routine day-to-day marking runs on the AI layer with a human audit sample over it, and we describe it in exactly those words — to you and to our accreditor.

Question 13

How will I know how my child is doing?

Accepted Answer

You get your own account. Every week: what your child studied, which lessons they attended, what they have genuinely mastered, and where they are struggling — in words, not percentages. Every term: a full report with their grades. At any time: their timetable, their assignments, what has been marked, and a message channel to their coaches. You will not find leaderboards, streaks or badges; GEO does not rank children against each other.

Are the lessons recorded?

Accepted Answer

No. GEO is not a video library and a lesson is never an unattended recording — every lesson is live. Separately, high-stakes examinations are recorded for integrity review and held for no longer than one month, unless there is a specific reason we explain to you in plain words. Both of those are true and neither weakens the other.

Question 15

What about my child's privacy?

Accepted Answer

The account is yours, not your child's. We ask for your consent before collecting anything about them, and separately again before sharing anything with anyone else — two decisions, never one. We verify your child's identity at login and during examinations, which involves biometric checks; we say plainly that they are biometric checks, we never search a face against a crowd, there is always a non-biometric alternative that costs your child nothing, and every category of data has a published deletion date. Transcripts and diplomas are kept permanently. Almost nothing else is.

Can my child talk to a real person?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Each of your child's subject areas has a named coach — a qualified educator with a degree and several years of experience — who follows your child, notices when the work goes quiet and gets in touch, meets them on a scheduled cadence, and answers to you. No adult at GEO ever has an unmonitored private channel to a child; every conversation runs in a logged channel, and that is deliberate.

Question 17

How many students will there be?

Accepted Answer

About a thousand in the first year, across grades 6, 7 and 8 and across every country we open in. It is a deliberately small first cohort. Class size, in the way you normally mean it, is one.

Question 18

What happens if we lose the internet during a lesson?

Accepted Answer

The class pauses and resumes where it stopped when you reconnect, and the teacher recaps in a sentence. If a session is lost entirely it is rescheduled into another live slot the same day or the next — never replaced with a recording to watch alone, because GEO has no such mode.

Question 19

Does my child have to sit the SAT or the ACT?

Accepted Answer

Not to graduate from GEO. But it matters a great deal in some countries. In South Africa the diploma is only accepted for university study alongside a score — SAT 1130, ACT 22, or two Advanced Placement subjects at grade 3 or above. In Jamaica recognition itself carries no test condition, but the University of the West Indies at Mona asks for SAT 1200 alongside the diploma when it admits. Preparation for the SAT, the ACT and Advanced Placement is included in the fee at no extra cost. Your child sits the examination itself externally as a private candidate, under that body's rules and at its fee, and we guide you through registration.

Question 20

What are the glasses, and do we have to buy them?

Accepted Answer

From the 2028/2029 school year, GEO ships its own kit — see-through glasses, a keyboard and a mouse, with a built-in eSIM so it arrives ready to connect. It is not part of the 2027/2028 school year, which runs on the device your family already owns. Families pay for the kit at cost — the device, shipping, customs and delivery, with nothing added for GEO — and we will publish the price once the device exists and the cost is real, not before.

Question 21

Why should we trust a school that has not opened yet?

Accepted Answer

You should not trust it on its word, and we have not asked you to. What we have done instead is publish the things a school normally hides: that we are not accredited and when we expect to be; every country where the diploma will not work, and why; exactly what the fee does and does not include; and who is building it. Read all of it before you join the waitlist, which costs nothing and commits you to nothing, and hold us to every word of it.
